Stronghold Starigrad – Fortica
When you come to Omiš, from Duće in a couple of minutes’ drive, it would be a shame not to visit historically important monuments. Above Omiš there is a stronghold which used to protect this town from enemies, whether they threatened from land, or from the Adriatic Sea.
The fortress is high above sea level and has a beautiful view . Its main role was to oversee the entire town as well as the sea and if the enemies were to come close, huge stones would be rolled downhill. However, Omiš can proudly say that this has never happened, yet.
The path to this fortress is marked and easy to find. When you climb up the top you will experience a breath-taking panorama of the town, the sea and the canyon, as well as the islands nearby. Be sure to take your cameras.
It is a 20 minutes’ to 1h walk uphill depending on your wishes. If you want to enjoy the nature you will slow down your pace, if you are willing to see whether you are up to the challenge, then you will try to break the record of the climb.
Unfortunately, there are no guides for this tour. However, this is why we are at your disposal 0-24/7 days a week. Therefore, if you fancy visiting the stronghold you are welcome to ask the way, as well as for the transport or guidance, if you need one.
Stronghold Peovica – Mirabela
In the old centre of the town of Omiš there are stony stairs which lead us to our next stronghold that was used primarily for scouting. This stronghold overlooks the entire old part of the town as well as Duće and the sea towards the island of Brač. Therefore, it was a good way to see if the enemy was coming. To "conquer" this stronghold you have to make a lot of stairs. But the nature surrounding will make you forget about them. Mirabela is on the top and has 4 floors. In order to enter you need to pay a 2 € entry fee. When you enter you will climb the top and take some of the most beautiful photographs you would have ever imagined.

Mountain Peak – Kula (Imber)
In case you are interested in absorbing the beauty of nature from a slightly different perspective, you will absolutely enjoy a relaxing and not excessively demanding trail up to the Kula Peak, the highest peak of the Omiš Dinara Mountain, located on the Eastern side of Omiš.
It takes about 1h walk from the Borak area to the Kula Peak, which is located on 863 metres above sea level. The trail is marked, so there is no chance of getting lost. When you finally get there, a stunning view of the Central Dalmatian islands, Duće, Dugi Rat and the crystal clear Cetina River will leave you speechless.
There is also a recently built mountain home, located on the wide meadow where you can rest and enjoy the sounds and colours of nature for hours. The house is free to use even for spending the night there in which case, you have to take sleeping bags with you (max. 8-10 people).
Our advice is to go there with a strong will to turn off your phones and to enjoy the peaceful rest away from the crowded places.

The Cetina River Canyon
We can proudly say that The Cetina River Canyon is one of the most beautiful canyons in Croatia due to the high quality and cleanliness of water, as well as because of the numerous possibilities of adventure tourism it provides. The fact that it has the status of protected landscape area since 1963 proves it. Therefore, it would be a shame not to experience it in many different ways; whether you prefer the calm boat ride or you want to fly over the canyon on Zip line.
The special feature about Omiš is that it is surrounded by high mountains and a river flowing into the sea, you do not need to travel far to experience the pureness of nature, fresh air and astonishing vegetation, that are ‘just around the corner’.
If it seems to you like we are exaggerating, maybe it would be good to mention that some of the scenes from the 1960s Winnetou films were filmed in the Cetina River Canyon, more specifically in Radmanove Mlinice.
Those 10 films, based on German author Karl May’s novels, reached popularity in the 1960s, and the scenes from Croatia enchanted the world. Today, it is still possible to visit the places where the Winnetou was filmed and to feel a touch of the past.
